The idea
The Midnight Misfits" is a high-profile Dungeons & Dragons campaign featuring a cast of varied real-world backgrounds—from culinary arts to comedy—navigating a narrative woven by Dungeon Master Jeremy Siregar.
The execution
The Challenge To create a suite of character illustrations that bridge the gap between Realism and High Fantasy. The goal was to retain the likeness of the players (Real-world public figures) while fully immersing them in the lore of the game. The visual identity needed to scream "Chaos" yet remain aesthetically balanced. Archetypal Silhouettes: I utilized distinct shape language for each character. Sharper, angular shapes for the chaotic characters, and grounded, heavy blocks for the tank/warrior roles. Narrative Costuming: Every piece of gear tells a story. The wear and tear on the armor reflect the "Misfit" nature of the group—they are not polished heroes; they are survivors. Lighting & Mood: A "Midnight" palette was used—deep blues and purples contrasted with warm, dangerous highlights to emphasize the campaign's title and tone.
The result
The Outcome A cohesive visual identity for the campaign that serves both as promotional material and an immersive aid for the audience. then transform each characters to be Magic : The Gathering Custom Card.
